Our mission

Our mission is to transform waste into a resource, in a bioeconomy perspective, the biological heart of the circular economy.

The bioeconomy includes all economic activities deriving from bio-based products and processes that have the potential to contribute to sustainable solutions for global challenges on food, health, energy, environment.

For us, biological waste is actually natural biofactories of bioactive substances.

Through the technologies available to the laboratories of the Department of Excellence in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, we extract bioactive products from waste and refuse from agricultural, forestry and marine production, we characterize them and demonstrate their bioactivity scientifically and experimentally on human cellular models.

The bioactive products can then be used to obtain secondary and tertiary products with high added value to be used in biocosmetics, in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and bionutraceutical fields or as bio-phytostimulants for applications in the field of organic and eco-sustainable agriculture. We use residual biomass to produce new materials.

In this way we give new life to biological materials, without apparent value but rich in beneficial substances, which would otherwise be disposed of or thrown away.
